Thai Airways Royal Orchid Lounge BKK
With a visit to the new Thai Airways Royal Orchid Lounge and a lie-flat seat, the journey back home was a comfortable one. Having it on the same Business award ticket was definitely a bonus! This post details my experience visiting the Lounge.
Thai Airways Royal Orchid Lounge BKK
BKK-SIN Thai Airways Business Class
As mentioned earlier, I was half awake upon arriving back at BKK Airport. Nevertheless, I couldn't help but feel excited about experiencing Thai Airways for the first time, especially in their lie-flat Business Class seats!
Damage: part of a 3-segment 1 way award flight which included Etihad Regional Business Class and Oman Air First Class, for 80,000 Aeroplan points.
Check-In
Business Class travelers benefit from fast-track access through Bangkok Airport security and passport control via a dedicated lane. I took advantage of this service to swiftly reach transit, allowing me to make the most of my time at the Thai Airways Royal Orchid Lounge! 😉
Lounge
I had read online reviews of the new Thai Airways Royal Orchid Lounge (located near the Silverkris Lounge BKK), and upon entering, I was impressed by its refreshed appearance, characterized by walls adorned with greenery and a contemporary design reminiscent of the exterior of the Parkroyal Pickering, a place in which me and the missus really enjoyed.
The main bummer was that there was the sizable morning crowd at the dining areas, and this was significant as the lounge was really big. I only found a seat to the back of the lounge, meaning that it took a considerable amount of time spent walking back to my seat after fetching food.
Interestingly, there was a separate entrance and reception to the Thai Royal First and Silk lounge, and led to another area with additional seatings.
Dining
Speaking of dining options, there were multiple food stations offering a wide array of both local and Western cuisines. Additionally, there was a live cooking station for eggs, from which I opted for scrambled eggs. A separate Halal corner and vegetarian food station was tucked away in the far corner of the lounge.
The lounge also boasted a bar serving coffee, cocktails/mocktails, and alcoholic beverages (although I personally abstained in the early morning hours). I ordered a long black, which was delightfully robust and suited my taste perfectly.
Facilities
Among the other notable amenities were shower facilities, and a kids' room where parents could entertain their children while enjoying the lounge's amenities.
Due to the crowded conditions, I only spent about 30-45 minutes in the lounge before heading to the gate.
Conclusion
Although my visit was brief, I found the new Thai Airways Royal Orchid Lounge to be quite refreshing and would be a pleasant place to relax, provided the crowd is minimal. It's advisable to avoid the early morning rush if you can.
